Morzine is situated in the river Dranse valley, below the cliff top town of Avoriaz. It is an old market town which retains much of its character. A market is still held every Wednesday morning down by the river.
You can soak up the atmosphere in its many bars and restaurants, where a warm welcome is guaranteed. A tourist information centre and banks are located in the upper town square. There are internet cafes, shops and a cinema (with some films in English).
There are plenty of sports facilities available in Morzine: the public ice rink includes a bar and hosts regular ice hockey matches. The Olympic size outdoor swimming pool is now complemented with a new indoor pool complex, complete with saunas and hammans.

Winter
Morzine/Avoriaz is in the heart of the Portes du Soleil region, which has 650 kms of marked piste for downhill skiing and snowboarding, and 243 kms of cross country skiing tracks. The area connects 12 resorts in France and Switzerland and is considered the largest linked ski area in the world. With 195 ski lifts and 694 snow cannons, the area's snow management and uplift capability has improved enormously over the last few years. From our central position, the Morzine, Les Gets and Avoriaz sectors are easily accessible.
The resort normally opens mid December or earlier if we have good early snow, and continues until the end of April. There are pistes for all abilities, from first timers to experienced back country skiers.
Boarders will find some excellent snow parks, including 'The Stash', which winds through the trees in Les Lindarets. Avoriaz, the highest resort in the area at 1800 meters has a big snow park and a half pipe. Night skiing is also available on the Pleney slope in Morzine along with the weekly history of skiing show and a torchlight descent by the French ski instructors, (snow permitting).
Other activities include snow shoe walking, dog sledding, horse drawn sleigh rides, ice skating (indoor and out), paragliding or just chilling out in the alpine sunshine. The new indoor swimming centre is open during the winter with a fitness pool, a learners pool, a baby pool, 3 saunas and 2 steam baths, and a cafe.

Summer
Summer in the French Alps is a beautiful time of year with a variety of activities available: enjoy the lovely mountain scenery whilst walking, road cycling, mountain biking, paragliding, horse riding or fishing. Relax on the banks of the local lakes, or by the Olympic size swimming pool.
There are lots of tennis courts, a skate park, the luge d'ete (toboggan run), golf courses, adventure parks (rope climbing & flying foxes through the tree tops), a quad bike circuit, and for the daring, bungy jumping from the Nyon cable car and flying the unique 'Fantasticable'.
For climbers there are 2 local Via Ferrata courses, one in Avoriaz and the other on the "Elephant's Head" rock in St Jean D'Aulps. On the river Dranse there is white water rafting, canoeing, and other methods of running the rapids.
The mountain bike season in Morzine starts with the Pass'Portes event held over the last weekend in June, and if you're into riding the roads on cycles or motor bikes, Morzine is on the Grande Route des Alpes. We can also provide ideas of road rides in the area, including some of the famous cols used in the Tour de France. Bikes and repairs are available from www.toricomorzine.com
In the last few years the area has become a popular place for Triathlon training with Lac de Montriond a good place for running and swimming training at altitude. The lake is 1 km long and good for open water swimming with a walking/running track all the way around it. The lake also hosts a firework spectacle early in August.

Days out can include visits to the medieval towns of Yvoire, Annecy and Samoens. The spa towns of Thonon and Evian-les-Bains are on the shores of Lake Geneva only 30 minutes away, both have boat trips available. Geneva and Montreux have music festivals with free open air concerts during the summer and are worth a visit.
The stunning regional park of Sixt Fer au Cheval should not be missed and the Aiguille du Midi in Chamonix is spectacular at any time of year.
For petrol heads the Morzine/Mt Blanc rally passes through the area early in September. Autumn is a lovely time of year in the mountains so why not combine the wine and autumn fair in St Jean D'Aulps with seeing the spectacular autumn colours?
